Synopsis
Marco Olmo is the best ultramarathon runner in the world.
He runs for more than 160 km non-stop, twenty hours of race in the desert of Morocco or on Monte Bianco, at 2500 m. high.
Marco is from Robilante, a little municipality in the Piedmont Alps, in Vermenagna Valley, not far from Cuneo.
On the eighth of October he will be sixty years old.
Born into a peasant family, when he was twenty he left the country to work in the town's cement plant . His fate and life have been marked by this choice: still nowadays, notwistanding his sport successes, he defines himself as a "loser".
We will tell the history of this out of line man, we'll follow him during his preparation trainings for his next (and maybe last) race: the Ultra Trail du Mont Blanc, the hardest in Europe.
Along these paths we'll meet his fellows countrymen and first fans. Breeders, peasants, entrepreneurs and musicians, tourist guides and cheesemongers, the valley's old and new inhabitants and , in full, the "Mountain".
Marco will be our guide, he will let us penetrate that reality. Following his steps, we'll collect the stories of a reality which is changing and looking for its own identity.
The Movie will confront men and their environment in a journey through memory, with a careful, curious and never stereotyped look. It will deal with universal themes of work, environment, modernization and sport.
We will narrate, without easy simplifications but with equilibrium and irony, the stories of the sons and nephews of that people described by Nuto Revelli in his book "Il mondo dei vinti".
Winners or losers, in any case keeping on struggling, day by day, one step after another.
